HIGH ATTENDANCE AT BETHANY ART STUDIO WORKSHOP DAY

April Wilson, Sara Nelson and Maria Spellman of Smoky Valley High School, Lindsborg, attended Bethany College Art Studio Workshop Day Oct. 16.

LINDSBORG, Kan.—Fifty-six high school art students and nineteen teachers from schools in Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma participated in Bethany College Art Studio Workshop Day, held Oct. 16 at Mingenback Art Center.
Students took a day-long college level art class with Bethany faculty, assisted by Bethany undergraduate art teaching assistants. The visitors explored materials and content and participated in critiques. Workshops offered were basketry with Caroline Kahler, charcoal drawing with Frank Shaw and sculpture with Ed Pogue.
High school teachers in attendance spent the morning visiting the home and studio of Bethany Professor Mary Kay, and the afternoon collaborating on lesson plan ideas.
Bethany College offers bachelor’s degrees in studio art, art education, art therapy and art administration. In addition, all students choose at least one of the following areas of concentration: ceramics, drawing, painting or sculpture.
Bethany College art education graduates have a 100 percent employment record for all who have applied for teaching positions. Graduates in art therapy have a 100 percent placement record in acceptance to graduate schools nationwide.
The art department is housed in Mingenback Art Center, designed specifically for the visual arts. The art center includes a centrally located gallery that provides students with opportunities for group exhibits and individual senior shows as well as visiting artist exhibits and lectures.
