LINDSBORG, Kan.—The Bethany Symphonic Band will present its second concert of the semester on Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall on the Bethany College campus.
The ensemble, directed by Associate Professor of Music Doug Talbott, will perform a variety of wind band literature, including transcriptions and contemporary compositions.
Selections to be performed include: the fast-paced “Galop” from the musical comedy “Moscow, Cheremushky” by Dmitri Shostakovich; Steven Reineke’s “Goddess of Fire,” a programmatic work describing Pele, the Goddess of Hawaii’s volcanoes; Morten Lauridesen’s popular vocal  work “Contre Qui, Rose,” transcribed for symphonic winds by Robert Reynolds; a Jay Bocook arrangement of “Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saens; the powerful and beautiful transcription for band of Richard Wagner’s “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral”; and James Hosay’s “And the Multitude With One Voice Spoke,” an emotional composition dedicated to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and commissioned by the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
During intermission, the 2007-2008 music performance award recipients at Bethany College will be recognized by Dr. Daniel Masterson, chair of the music department.
