BETHANY COLLEGE PRESENTS “A CHRISTMAS CAROL”
LINDSBORG, Kan.—On Dec. 7 and 8, the Bethany College Department of Theatre and Communication Arts will present a Reader’s Theatre adaptation of Charles Dickens’ beloved classic “A Christmas Carol.”

(l-r) Scrooge and The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come

The performances will be at 7:30 p.m. in Burnett Center on the campus of Bethany College.
“This story, more than any other, marks the Christmas season,” said director Carl Isaacson, associate professor of communication at the college. “I felt we needed, somehow, to get a Christmas play to go with the Jultide music and bring the college and the community together to celebrate before the students went home for the holidays.”
The production’s 15-person cast includes both Bethany College theatre veterans and newcomers.
Done in Reader’s Theatre style, which emphasizes storytelling and allows for the use of scripts and reading stands on-stage, the production invites the audience and these newcomers to “taste” the theatre, said Isaacson.
One newcomer, Nicholas Duman, will play the role of Scrooge. Duman is a transfer student and baseball scholarship holder. He is joined by Destry Jackson, Gilda Alvarez, Aubrey Loizzi, Katie Mannebach, Lorenzo Araujo, Fred Smith, Suzanna Swenson and Joel Weide in making Bethany stage debuts.
Fans of Bethany theatre also will recognize many Bethany College theatre veterans, including Brianna Kaiser, Ben Helmers, Zach Allen, Emily Petrosky, Nicolette Unruh and Cody Whetstone.
In addition to the student performers, the production will feature carols from the Lindsborg Youth Choir as “olios” between the “staves” of the story. The evening ends with the audience, cast and singers joining in caroling.
“The shortened adaptation is perfect for families looking for wholesome entertainment to celebrate the season,” said Isaacson.
