BETHANYCOLLEGE ANNOUNCES FIRST SELECTIONS FOR HONORS PROGRAM
LINDSBORG, KAN.— BethanyCollege has selected 13 current students for a new program designed to better recruit, serve and retain exceptionally bright and curious students.
Approved by faculty last year, the Bethany College Honors Program will provide member students special opportunities in and outside the classroom. The Honors Program also will give students role models and a network of peers who support the importance and relevance of academic pursuits. Unique among ACCK schools, the program was developed by Assistant Professor of History Kelly McFall. He also serves as program coordinator.
Students in the Honors Program will receive numerous benefits to encourage their academic pursuits, including a special study lounge, extended borrowing privileges at the library, funds to subsidize participation in academic conferences, priority in enrollment, increased involvement with Bethany faculty and guest lecturers, and help applying for post-graduate scholarships and fellowships.
Having an honors program will help recruit “more of the best students to Bethany, and equip them to exceed their expectations,” McFall said.
The Honors Program will be limited to 30 students at any given time. Successful completion of the program will earn students the title of graduating with honors.
College students entering the program must have a cumulative college GPA of 3.5 or higher. High school students who apply must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.6 or higher. All applicants must have an ACT score of 26 or higher. Through their applications and interviews, students also must show excitement for a broad range of ideas and issues beyond their immediate experience.
Students applying to BethanyCollege may also apply to the Honors Program. Applications from incoming freshmen and transfers will be reviewed beginning Feb. 1, 2005.
