BETHANY COLLEGE PROFESSOR IS FEATURED GUEST PERFORMER
LINDSBORG, Kan.—Bethany College Professor Dan Masterson recently returned from being a featured performer in a music colloquium at Rock Valley College, Rockford, Illinois.
Masterson, a pianist, performed as a soloist and collaborative artist with Rachel Handlin, violinist, who is originally from Lindsborg; and Michael Beert, cellist and chair of the fine arts division at Rock Valley College. The January 27 concert included works by Mozart, Foss and Chopin, and featured Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D minor. Masterson also served as a clinician for a master class with college and area students on January 26.
Masterson, associate professor of music at Bethany, chairs the Bethany College Department of Music. He joined the music faculty at Bethany College in 2000. He teaches piano, piano pedagogy and music theory at the college.
Beyond his teaching, Masterson maintains an active schedule as a soloist and collaborative artist. He has performed recitals in many central and southern states and has extensive experience in accompanying soloists and chamber ensembles. He brings additional versatility to the music department from his experience as a public educator, private teacher and church musician.
Masterson holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois, a Masters of Music from Wichita State University and a Bachelor of Arts from McPherson College. He is an active member of the Kansas Music Teachers Association.
