STUDENT ART WINNERS ON DISPLAY AT BETHANY COLLEGE
LINDSBORG, KAN.—Winning artists were announced Sunday in the Bethany College Messiah Festival Juried Student Art Exhibition.
“Ultimate Connection,” a painting by Noah Flores, Marquette, Kan., won best of show and best of painting in the Bethany College Messiah Festival Juried Student Art Exhibition.
The annual exhibition continues through March 25 in Mingenback Art Center on the Bethany campus, Lindsborg.
The exhibition features ceramics, crafts, design, drawings, paintings, photography, printmaking and sculpture created by Bethany students currently taking art classes. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Mingenback Art Center Gallery is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Of the 225 works entered, exhibition jurors chose 71 works from 25 students for inclusion in this year’s show.
Winners included:
·         Best of Show: Noah Flores, Marquette, Kan., for his painting “Ultimate Connection”
·         Best piece by a freshman or sophomore: Maggie Bogan, Rogers, Ark., for her painting “Self Portrait”
·         Best piece by a junior or senior: Andrew Loges, Loveland, Colo., for his sculpture “Maternal Walker”
·         Best of Ceramics: Jennifer Margres, Sayreville, New Jersey, for “Water, Wind, Earth”
·         Best of Crafts: Omar Ogeerally, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, for “Armed Gradient”
·         Best of Design: Kaci Critchfield, Waterville, Kan., for “Self Portrait”
 ·         Best of Drawing: Kaci Critchfield for “Three Blind Mice”
·         Best of Painting: Noah Flores for “Ultimate Connection”
·         Best of Photography: Agnes Eklund, Minneapolis, Kan., for “Untitled”
·         Best of Printmaking: Noah Flores for “Primal”
·         Best of Sculpture: Andrew Loges for “Maternal Walker”
“Maternal Walker” by Andrew Loges, Loveland, Colo., won best of sculpture and best piece by a junior or senior.
Students whose art received a merit award included Maggie Bogan, Rogers, Ark.; Nancy Castro, Costa Mesa, Calif.; Kaci Critchfield, Waterville, Kan.; Alisha Croomes, Salina, Kan.; April Decker, Lindsborg, Kan.; Angie DuMars, Lindsborg, Kan.; Agnes Eklund, Minneapolis, Kan.; Afton Eye, Larned, Kan.; Brian Giesen, Anthony, Kan.; Brent Hilliard, Lubbock, Texas; Kae Kohman, Hope, Kan.; Andrew Loges, Loveland, Colo.; Omar Ogeerally, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Kimber Peterson, Lindsborg, Kan.; Gabriel Pionkowski, Topeka, Kan.; Crystal Porter, Wichita, Kan.; Cody Suhre, Greeley, Colo.; Emily White, Minneapolis, Kan.
Students whose art was selected for inclusion in the show include the above and Ariel Landrum, White City, Kan.; Eileen McNeill, Halstead, Kan.; Heath Parsons, Lindsborg, Kan.; Amanda Wehrman, McPherson, Kan.; and Joel Weide, Lindsborg, Kan.
The jurors for this year’s exhibition were Michael Jilg and Tobias Flores, art professors at Fort Hays State University.

The juried exhibition is part of the Messiah Festival of Music and Art, an eight-day celebration of sacred music, theatre and art at Bethany College. Mingenback Art Center is located on the corner of Olsson and Second Street on the Bethany College campus. Mingenback houses the premier center for art instruction in the region and a gallery devoted to the work of regional artists and Bethany College students and alumni.
