CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS BETHANY RENOVATIONS
LINDSBORG, Kan.—Bethany’s strategic plan for campus renovation is highlighted in an article in this week’s issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education.
The story explores the challenge of deferred maintenance on college campuses, including at the University of Maryland, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dallas Theological Seminary and Lehigh University.
It ends with a discussion of “tiny Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan.,” where a recent $6 million bond project is funding a new residence hall, campus beautification and infrastructure maintenance, such as repaired roofs and boilers. The goal of the investment is to help Bethany better recruit and retain students, in order to grow enrollment.
Bethany College President Edward F. Leonard III was interviewed for the story, and is quoted in the article.
“As Campuses Crumble, Budgets Are Crunched,” by Scott Carlson, is in the Money and Management section of the Chronicle of Higher Education, Volume 54, Issue 37, Page A1.
In the past month, Bethany has broken ground for a new apartment-style residence hall and an addition to its gymnasium – both part of its bond project – and begun work on stadium renovations, in partnership with Smoky Valley USD 400. A new outdoor amphitheatre on campus also is nearing completion.
Bethany College, established by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1881, is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. The mission of Bethany College is to nurture and challenge individuals in their search for truth and meaning as they lead lives of faith, learning and service. Bethany College is on the Web at www.bethanylb.edu.
