BETHANY CHOIR IN CONCERT NOV. 6
LINDSBORG, Kan.—On November 6, the Bethany College Choir will perform a variety of selections as part of its first concert of the year.
 |
| The Bethany College Choir will perform its fall concert on Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall. The Chamber Choir also will perform selections during the concert. |
The community is invited to attend the event, held at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall on the Bethany College campus.
The choir is directed by Mark Bowdidge, visiting associate professor of music. Bowdidge comes to Bethany from Brewton-Parker College in Georgia. He has served as an organist, choir director and vocalist at numerous churches. From 1998 to 2001, he was musical director and conductor of the Fort Worth Civic Chorus in Texas.
Student Marianne Mooney, horn, will accompany the choir during its performance of Paul Bassler’s “Alleluia” from “Songs of Faith.” Student Sean Boller will accompany the choir on Robert Ray’s “He Never Failed Me Yet.” Other selections to be performed include arrangements of “Jubilate Deo,” “Almighty God of our Fathers” and “Ave Maria.”
In addition, the Bethany College Chamber Choir will perform four selections, including Brahms “Abendlied” and Bernstein’s “Life is Happiness” from Candide.
The 26 students who sing in the Bethany College Choir are selected by audition, and represent nearly all disciplines on campus. The Chamber Choir is a smaller group of selected choir members.
Founded in February 1935 by Dr. Hagbard Brase to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach, the choir has performed over 500 concerts in 29 states and four European countries, including its New York debut at Alice Tully Hall under Dr. Elmer Copley. Last summer, it performed in Germany and Sweden as part of its sixth European tour.
During the school year, the choir is heard on campus in Jultide at Bethany and as part of the internationally-known Messiah Festival held each spring during Holy Week.
