Professional Activities My first interest in biology was the ecology of reptiles. While studying for my doctorate, I became fascinated by some of the cardiovascular adaptations seen in reptiles. Since coming to Bethany I've become interested in two other organisms, the African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis) and the manure worm (Eisenia foetida). Students in my lab use the frog to study normal and abnormal amphibian development. I use the manure worm to teach the students how to vermicompost. I am especially interested in areas where biology intersects with other disciplines. I developed an interdisciplinary course in environmental science a number of years ago. I team teach a course in genetics, ethics and society. I'm helping teach a course in forensic science.
