ATHLETICS  Cheer Squad
Cheer Squad

Cheerleaders 2006

About the Program                                                                                                                                                                                                                     The Bethany Cheer Squad’s goal is to create and promote school support and interest in athletics, increase enrollment in Bethany College, develop high team standards, and provide quality family entertainment. Cheer squad members strive to uplift all those they come in contact with. We actively seek quality individuals who exibit positive personal character and outstanding work ethic to utilize their talents while pursuing an excellent academic education at Bethany College. Bethany’s Cheer Squad is composed of 10-20 men and women athletes. The team cheers at all home football and basketball games, and most away games including post-season games. In addition, the squad makes special appearances at alumni, athletic, charitable and community activities as scheduled.

Practices and Appearances
Practices are 2-4 days per week for 1 1/2 to 3 hrs.  Practices consist  of conditioning, learning and perfecting cheer technique and stunt skills. All members are expected to weight train and practice on their own in addition to their weekly practice schedule in order to maintain optimal physical condition. Bethany’s Cheer program has cheerleading mats, spring tumbling floor strip, and a tumbling barrel etc. to aid in skills training and perfecting. Athletes have access to an athletic trainer at all times as well as a personal physical trainer when necessary.
The Bethany Cheer Squad is always looking to improve their program by attending camps and competitions. However, the squad is focused on promotion of school spirit rather than competition. Each year the cheer coach hires private instructors to come work with the team on perfecting skills and choreography.

Financial Assistance and Scholarship
There is no cost to be a member of the Bethany Cheer Squad. All uniforms, bags, camp fees, travel expenses, etc. are paid for by Bethany College. The Bethany Cheer Squad holds one fundraiser per year to add funds to the program. Currently, All members of the cheer squad receive scholarship starting at $1,000 per year as an Athletic Performance Award, with more possible based on need and talent. Students must have a 2.5 GPA to recieve their initial athletic scholarship and maintain at least a 2.0 after each academic year to keep the scholarship. Dual Athletic Award Scholarships starting at $1,500 are available to those students who maintain at least a 3.0 and are selected to be on the cheer squad and another athletic team after thier first year of participation.
