All consultation and counseling is confidential in nature, in accord with the guidelines of the American Association for Counseling and Development. Every appointment with the counselor is treated as a professional confidential relationship. There are legal exceptions to confidentiality. Counselors are required by law to report cases of suspected child abuse. They may disclose information when it is necessary to protect a client or others from imminent danger. Information may also be disclosed when it is required by court order.
