Athletic Training Program Coordinator  

David Slack, Ed.D, LAT, ATC, is athletic training coordinator and associate professor of the athletic training program. He holds an education doctorate in sports management from the University of Utah and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Brigham Young University and Utah State University, respectively.

Most recently Slack was assistant professor of the HPEES department and program director of the athletic training education program at Washburn University in Topeka. Prior to Washburn, Slack served as professor, athletic director and head athletic trainer at Brigham Young University-Hawaii.

Head Athletic Trainer

Richard McClellan, BS, LAT, ATC,
 is head athletic trainer. He came to Bethany from Sterling College where he served as assistant athletic trainer and part-time lecturer/proctor for two years. Prior to Sterling, McClellan was a trainer/administrator for Universal Cheerleaders Association Camps and assisted with the Berea Invitational High School Basketball Tournament in Berea, Ky. 

McClellan holds a bachelor's degree in physical education with an emphasis in exercise science and sports medicine with a minor in health from Berea College. He also is certified by and a member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA). He also is an Approved Clinical Instructor for the NATA.

Assistant Athletic Trainer 
Jody Miller, MS, LAT, ATC, is the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Bethany College. Previously, she was at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where she worked as a Graduate Assistant with the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams, Men’s Soccer, and Men’s Basketball. During her time at UCCS, Jody has the chance to work at Colorado Springs Christian School as an interim Athletic Trainer and taught an introductory athletic training class to the high school students. Prior to that she was a student athletic trainer at Northern Colorado where she worked closely with NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball and Women’s Softball as well as spending various amounts of time with other athletic teams at Northern Colorado. 
 
Jody holds a bachelor’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training and a minor in Coaching from the University of Northern Colorado. She also recently graduated with a Master’s of Sciences in Sports Medicine from the University of Colorado in May of 2005.

Dr. Graig Nickel, MD

Dr. Graig Nickel, is a 1990 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine.  Dr. Nickel graduated from Bethany College in 1987 with a degree in Biology.  After graduation he moved to Lawrence to pursue exercise physiology and spend the next eight years working a s research assistant and exercise programmer in a cardiac rehabilitation facility.

In 1995 he entered the University of Kansas School of Medicine.  Aside from his responsibilities as a family practitioner, Dr. Nickel has been involved with the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians as a student, resident and serving on their board of directors.

Dr. Todd Herrenbrook, MD
Surgeon
Orthopedic Sports Health Clinic of Salina

Dr. Todd Herrenbrook earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from University of Kansas Medical Center.  He received his residency training at S.U.N.Y. Upstate Medical University at Syracuse.  His fellowship was completed at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation-Division of Sports Medicine Dept. of Orthopedics.  This included a stint with the Cleveland Browns and other professional Cleveland organizations.
