Great traditions are developed over time. The heritage of Bethany College football has been assembled, season by season, beginning Nov. 14, 1893.
Bethany football has been competitive and exciting since 1902 when the Swedes went undefeated, beating the likes of Oklahoma University and Kansas State University. In those early days the legendary coach Bennie Owen led the teams that earned the title: "Terrible Swedes," a moniker still mentioned in the college's alma mater.
With a total of 15 games each year between varsity, junior varsity and scrimmages, every member of the Bethany squad gets the opportunity to play right away.
