George I. Corbari '87 Update
Biography of George I. Corbari
 
Originally from northern New York, George has lived in California, Kansas, and Washington as well as being assigned to various military units in Hawaii, Texas, and Germany. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education from Bethany College, Kansas and a Master’s Degree in Education form Western Washington University, specializing in human performance enhancement.
 
Before enlisting in the Army as an Interrogator, Russian Linguist, he was a youth, high school, college, and minor league professional football coach. George served as the special teams coordinator for Bethany College under NAIA Hall of Fame Coach Dr. Ted Kessinger; during which time the team won two Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships and was ranked nationally each year, including as high as 3rd during the 1984 campaign. George has also served as a head coach, defensive coordinator, and various other administration/operational positions within football. Involved with youth, high school and college sports for most of his life, George also has experience as a head track coach, assistant baseball and wrestling coach, football and basketball referee as well as baseball umpire. George has been a guest coach at the Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs, and Pittsburgh Steelers training camps.
 
The Army selected George for Officer Candidate School during his enlistment, and he earned his commission in 1997 as an Air Defense Artillery officer. His assignments have included multiple leadership roles from Platoon Leader to Battery Commander. As commander of a PATRIOT Air Defense Battery he deployed his unit to Turkey for Operation Display Deterrence in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star device, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon (second award), as well as the Parachutist and Air Assault Badges. George is currently assigned to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he serves as a performance enhancement consultant working closely with the football team as well as individuals from across the Corps of Cadets to improve team and individual performance in athletic, military and academic areas of concentration.
 
George has conducted numerous clinics for the National Football League’s Football Coaches Academy, United States Army All America Bowl, the National Youth Sports Coaches Association, several local Pop Warner football associations, and various civilian and military leadership seminars. He has also served as a consultant for the NFL High School Player Development Program and has assisted with the Pittsburgh Steelers Youth Coaches Clinic for the past three years. George and his wife Denise recently founded OptimalPerformanceCoach.com in order to better serve athletes, coaches and business leaders who want to improve the mental aspects of their individual or team performance.
 
George and his wife, Denise, have been married for 22 years. They have three children, Tera (who is currently a cadet at West Point), Tasia (who is currently a student at SUNY New Paltz), and David. George and Denise are in the process of adopting a daughter from China, Emmilie Grace XuYu.
