GO120 Human Geography (3 hours)
An investigation into the concepts and methods of geographical analysis. Spatial patterns of population distribution, cultural diversity, economic activities, political entities, and residential settlement. Emphasis placed on social, political, and economic behavior from the perspective of decisions relative to space and resource utilization.
GO220 World Regional Geography (3 hours)
World Regional Geography is design to explore major regions of the world such as Anglo-America, Latin America, Western and Eastern Europe, Russia and the former Soviet Republics, Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, Arctic and Antarctica. Methods of geographic analyses will be utilized for the exploration of the world’s regions and the connections between them. The course is focused on the distinctive physical, cultural, political, and economic characteristics which make a world region unique. At the same time, students will seek and analyze patterns in global development and interaction by observing how the physical environment shapes people’s lives and is in turn shaped by human activities. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. |
