Bruce R. Kahler is Professor of History at Bethany College, where he has taught American history and art history since 1988. He received his B.A. in history from Kutztown State College, his M.A. and Ph.D. in History- American Studies at Purdue University.
Professor Kahler is the author of numerous articles, book reviews, and encyclopedia entries. He has also written op-ed essays for the Salina (KS) Journal. He is currently working on a book about Civil War veterans in Kansas.
Kahler has served in a variety of administrative capacities at Bethany, including Assistant Academic Dean and Faculty Representative to the Board of Directors. Kahler has also served on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Humanities Council.
Among his pleasures are: reading hard-boiled crime novels, watching westerns and other action films, and listening to lots of music (bebop jazz, contemporary bluegrass, classical since 1900, and rock).
He is married to Caroline Kahler, Professor or Art. They have two children, Lauren and Andrew.
