SPECIAL EVENTS MARK BETHANY COLLEGE’S HOMECOMING 2006

 

Lindsborg, KanBethany College will celebrate Homecoming 2006 and its 125th anniversary with three days of activities Oct. 13-15. Highlights include the Fall Alumni Awards Brunch, the All-Alumni Gala Banquet, a silent art auction, an All-Band and All-Choir concert and the Homecoming football game with Peru State University.

Gold Award winner Monica Bland ‘00 and Athletic Hall of Honor inductees Chuck Peters ’90, Tana (Green) Kettner ’87 and Larry Harless ’67 will be honored at the Fall Alumni Awards Brunch at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, in Lindquist Hall of the Wallerstedt Library.

The All-Alumni Gala Banquet will begin with a mixer from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, in Pihlblad Memorial Union. The banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the union’s Cafeteria. 

            Speakers for the occasion include Bethany College president, Paul Formo; Board of Directors president, Bill Gusenius ’73; Eugene Bales, academic vice president; Chris Ericson ‘84, president of the Alumni Council; and Adam Esses, Student Council president. The emcee will be Don Anderson ’61.

            Ben Teitelbaum, a senior from Castle Rock, Colorado, will perform on the nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish instrument.  

Winning bids from a silent art auction will be announced at the banquet. The works, some commemorating the 125th anniversary of Bethany College, will be on display Saturday in the Levin Room of the Pihlblad Memorial Union.

Works include a three-dimensional bronze representation of Bethany College’s 125th anniversary seal by Ede Ericson Cardell ’86; a print by Lee Becker ’76; a pastel and crayon drawing by Cleo Elliott ’55; a drawing by Carl Peterson ’42; and a ceramic work by Caroline Kahler, associate professor of art.

            Prints of a watercolor by Eldon Swensson of Old Main, a building that once stood on campus, and copies of photographs by Lydia Sohlberg-Deere, taken of Lindsborg and the Bethany campus early in the 20th century, will be available for purchase on Saturday in the Levin Room of the Pihlblad Memorial Union.  

            Alumni who participated in band and choir during their years at Bethany have the opportunity to be part of the All-Bands and All-Choirs concert, which will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, in Presser Hall. Rehearsals will take place throughout the three-day celebration. Admission to the concert is free and a reception will follow on Presser lawn.

            Bethany College will play Peru University at 1:30 p.m. at Anderson Field. Reserved seat tickets are $6. General admission tickets are $10 for a Family Pass of four; $4 for adults; $2 for students. Children under 5 years of age are free. All game tickets may be purchased at the gate.
