Wyandotte County Administrator Dennis Hays announced the hiring of Wayne Burns '85, Bethany Graduate, as parks and recreation director for he Unified Government of Wyandotte County-Kansas City, Kansas. Burns joined the UG in 2004 as deputy parks and recreation director. He has been acting director since 2005. He has 15 years of experience in parks and recreation administration. He previously ran parks department in Mount Vernon, MO., Abilene, KS, and Ottawa, KS. Burns has a bachelor of arts degree in parks and recreation administration from Bethany College.

Randy Bates '96 Overland Park, KS

Randy was recently promoted from Marketing Manager to Director of Marketing for McDonald's USA - Heartland Region. Randy will over see the Marketing responsibilities of 520 McDonald's restaurants located in primarily Kansas and Missouri and also a few locations in Nebraska, Illinois, and Arkansas. Randy currently becomes the youngest Marketing Directory for McDonald's USA which has 22 Regional Offices in the U.S.

Scott Spielman '00 was promoted to Senior Financial Analyst at Bombardier in Wichita.

Dawn (Black) Spielman '99 earned her masters in Special Education from Southwestern College, KS in May 2006. She will also take a new teaching position with USD 263 teaching Special Education at Mulvane Grade School Fall 2006.

Perry James Walton '99 was one of 2003 medical students who received the doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Bio-sciences in commencement ceremonies May 21, in Kansas City, Mo. MORE.

Mike '02 and Kirsten (Samson) '03 Palmer married January of 2004 currently reside in Overland Park, Kansas. Mike works for Clarke American as a Partner Executive and Kirsten teaches kindergarten in the Shawnee Mission School District.

Dan O'Dowd '86 was appointed as Assistant  Men's Basketball Coach of the University of Texas San Antonio. He has been the Roadrunner Assistant Coach since April 2006. MORE.

Warren Taylor '68 has been very active as an artist. You can see his works all over the nation. He currently has a solo show for the month of June and July at the Laredo Center for Arts in Laredo, TX. He will have a solo exhibition at the Underwood Center for the Arts in Lubbock, TX February and March of 2007. He is also featured in two other exhibitions; Watercolor USA 2006 in Springfield, MO. where he had a piece purchased for the perminent collection by the Springfield Art Museum and The Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolor.

He attibutes his beginning path to Professor John Bashor, then professor of art/watercolor at Bethany.

Volunteer Opportunity Painting blitz to finish Warner Hall.... up-to-date information:
 
What:     4 hour painting blitz
When:    Saturday, July 22, 2006, 8:00 am - 12:00 noon
              (Come when you can, leave when you must.)
Where:   Warner Hall, Bethany College
What to bring:   Trim brush, roller, roller pan, roller extension, fuzzy roller, rags
                        drop cloth, step ladder.  Bring a fan if you need moving air.
                        (Bring what you can, we will have some extras.  Mark your stuff.)
Who to notify if you can help:  Jennifer Greenup or Leon/Judy Burch
                                             via email or phone (Burch's 785-227-3460)
What to expect:  We'll have everything ready...so you can expect to have FUN!
                          We are confident we can finish the job in 4 hours if we have
                          30-35 volunteers.  We have been trimming out several rooms so
                          some volunteers can roll as soon as they arrive.
What we need:  We need more funds for paint.  We have raised half of the paint
                          money.  The paint was just over $1300.  If you or other alumns
                          can give a donation for paint, please send to Jennifer Greenup at
                          Bethany.  Please note on your check that it is to be used for
                           the alumni painting blitz project.  THANKS!

Volunteer Opportunity at the Kansas State Fair!  Bethany College will be represented with a booth in the Meadowlark building.   The dates for the State Fair are September 8th through the 17th with two hour time slots to choose from starting at 9:00 am and going until 9:00 or 10:00 pm.  Your admission will be paid, close in parking for those in need, air conditioned environment and the greatest opportunity to visit with alumni, prospective student, faculty, staff, coaches etc.  Call Sharon Spohn to arrange a time convenient for you to go work a little and play a lot! Birth

Tim '96 and Lynn '06 Reazin are proud parents of another son, Nathaniel Tytus Reazin born 7/29/ 05.

Valerie '95 and Jim Linenberger have let us know they had a third child, Dayton born 11/15/05.

Mike '04 and Freda Strack proudly announce the birth of their daughter Annaliese Olivia born January 10, 2006. Freda is the Director of Residence Life at Bethany.

Mike and Amy (Darrow) Dreier both of the class of '97 announce the birth of their baby boy Nicholas born February 28, 2006.

Dawn '99 and Scott '00 Spielman wish to announce the birth of their daughter Savannah Momo (means peach in Japanese) born May 31, 2006. She weighed 8 pounds 14.4 ounces and was 20 1/4 inches long. Madison her older sister is a proud big sister who just turned 3 June 10th.

Brijin '96 (Johnson) and Rob Gardner welcomed their first child on June 6. They named their son Carson Christopher.

Jon '92 and Heidi (Rolander) Peterson announce the birth of their daughter Bierte Estelle. She was born June 28, 2006 weighing 7lbs. and was 19 1/2 inches.

Jason '99 and Carin '00 (Preston) Woolard  are the proud parents of twins born 7-10-06 @ 2:23pm and 2:25pm. They are Londyn Marie  6-3, 19 1/2 inches and Lilla Cathrine 5-6, 18 1/2 inches.

Kristin and David Winters both of the class of 1996 have welcomed a daughter to the Swede Alumni Babies, Alexandria Elizabeth was born 7/13/06.

Irma (Soderstrom) Hicks '48 of Oklahoma City died 4/5/06.

Alan Graber '98 of Pretty Prairie, Kansas died unexpectedly on 5/21/06.

Volunteers

 An incredible day in Bethany College volunteer history took place on campus June 24 as some 49 people volunteered their time or gave resources to paint Warner Hall. Nearly every room on the second and third floors, along with the stairwell and lobbies, received a fresh coat of paint. MORE.
