Music

Daniel A. Mahraun, Elmer F. Pierson Distinguished Professor of Music, joined the faculty of Bethany College in the fall of 2000 as Director of Choral/Vocal Activities. Mahraun holds a BME degree from Wartburg College (a sister ELCA institution), master’s degrees in conducting and performance from the University of Northern Iowa, and a DMA degree in the literature and performance of choral music from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Previously, he has served as director of the University of Colorado Women’s Chorus, vocal music director at Clear Lake (IA) Junior High School, and founder/director of the Clear Lake Area Kantorei. His credits as a lyric baritone include opera, oratorio, and frequent recitals. Mahraun is a member of ACDA, IFCM, MENC, CMS, the Herbert Howells Society, the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, and Lutherans Concerned/North America.
