Alumni and Friends give 328.5 hours (so far)!
An incredible day in Bethany College volunteer history took place on campus June 24 as some 49 people volunteered their time or gave resources to paint Warner Hall. Nearly every room on the second and third floors, along with the stairwell and lobbies, received a fresh coat of paint.
The first annual painting blitz was the suggestion of Judy (Peterson) Burch (’66), Bethany Alumni Council member. The council had decided they wanted to be more directly involved in doing something for the college. In coordination with the college’s Alumni Office, Burch and husband Leon (’64) orchestrated the efforts of the entire project.
“It was just overwhelming,” Judy Burch said of the spirit of volunteerism and attitude of the volunteers.
To date 328.5 hours have been clocked in labor and $575 in donations for paint.
“Together that adds up to a priceless showing of Bethany spirit by alumni, friends, faculty, current students, and staff,” said Jennifer Green up, alumni director. She added, “With great enthusiasm by all, a difference was made.”
The volunteers received lunch provided by the college and Greenup hosted the volunteers at her home for a barbecue supper at the end of the day.
There is a plan for finishing the building by the end of the summer.
“On behalf of the Bethany College community and its future students, we thank all that helped,” Greenup said.
