Social Work Mission Statement: What is the mission of your program? To prepare graduates to live lives of faith, learning and service through careers in generalist social work practice in a constantly changning, and increasingly diverse society and world. Completion of the program also prepares graduates for graduate education in social work through accomplishment of the social work professional foundation curriculum.
"The instructors became familiar with my strengths and my weaknesses. They were able to assist me in the areas I needed." "My classmates were really fun to be around. I was blessed to have such great classmates . . . they were always willing to help me out." Tou Fu "Brian" Her, 1997
The social work education program at Bethany College lays the groundwork of knowledge, skills, values, and ethics necessary for professional social work practice. The social work program prepares you for employment in a variety human and social service settings, and for graduate social work education. But, possibly most important, social work education prepares you for life. Built on the liberal arts base required of all Bethany students, social work education prepares you to meet the professional and personal challenges of your life with insight and understanding: to be an effective parent, to be a sensitive and responsive friend and to be an active and intelligent citizen.
The Social Work Program prepares students for careers where they can make a difference through:
Work with children and families, with adults and the elderly; work in hospitals and nursing homes, in residential care and in community-based programs; work in mental health, rehabilitation, and court services; and work in public, voluntary and corporate agencies and programs.
