Carl Aaron Swensson Stands Proud in New Location
Swensson Statue East of Presser
A statue of Bethany's founder, Carl Aaron Swensson, now graces the circle drive east of Presser Hall.

On March 13, Bethany College celebrated the moving of the Carl Aaron Swensson statue as part of Campus Green.

The statue of Bethany's founder and a past president now graces the college's new main entrance at First and Olsson Streets, above a native-stone water feature in the shape of a cross.

More than 200 Bethany supporters cheered Carl as he was lowered into place. Click through to view a PowerPoint Presentation of the move. Or, check out Professor Isaacson's video of the move.

Dr. Robert Vogel, Bethany's interim president, reminded the crowd that Swensson was "a man of vision, passion and commitment."

Students Tara Weisshaar and Dalton Weisshaar brought greetings from Bethany alumnus Sid Stolz. Stolz's lead gift made it possible for the college to begin the Campus Green project in September 2006.

The move marks the near completion of phase one of Campus Green. In the coming days, facilities workers and volunteers will finish installing new lighting, seeding grass, and planting flowers and shrubs.
