Freshman Amber Dunham of Independence, KS, met the “A” Standard in the shot put at the 80th Kansas Relays, held May 18-21, 2007, in Lawrence, KS, and qualified for her second event at the NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Fresno, CA, while junior Hope Stieben of Otis, KS, placed 5th in the women’s javelin.
After meeting the NAIA “A” Standard earlier in the week in the women’s javelin, Dunham met the standard in the shot put on her first throw as she threw a personal best 42-06.00. She placed 19th overall in the event.
Stieben had the highest finish with her 5th place throw of 132-02.00 in the javelin. Joining her in the event was senior Christine Fischer of Beloit, KS, who was 18th with 116-06.00.
Other women who competed at the Relays included: freshman Michelle Baltimore of Yuma, AZ, who was 18th in the discus (127-07.00); sophomore Sarah Helm of Seneca, KS, who was 34th in the 100m hurdles (15.93); junior Anna Miller of Blue Rapids, KS, who was 16th in hammer (139-11.00) and had no mark in the discus; sophomore Marcie Schottler of Marysville, KS who was 39th in the 1500m run (5:35.90—personal best); freshman Stephanie Wilson of Pomona, KS, who was 43rd in the 800m run (2:32.70—personal best).
For the men, senior Nathan Whitcomb of Cottonwood Falls, KS, and junior Caleb Svaty of Kanopolis, KS, were the only competitors at the Relays. Whitcomb was 14th in the hammer with 159-09.00 and had no mark in the discus, while Svaty was 19th in the hammer with 148-11.00.
The next meet for the teams is on Sunday, April 29, in Lincoln, NE, at the Nebraska Open.
Five Athletes Set to Attend Nationals in Fresno, CA
Four athletes have met the qualifying "A" Standards and one athlete has met the "B" Standard for the NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Fresno, CA, on May 24-26, 2007.
Those athletes who met the "A" Standards include: freshman Amber Dunham of Independence, KS, whose best marks are in the women's javelin (139-01.00) from the 2007 Bethany-Neosho Dual on April 15 and the women's shot put (42-06.00) from the Kansas Relays on April 18-21; senior Christine Fischer of Beloit, KS, whose best mark is in the women's javelin (131-11.00) from the 2007 Alex Francis Classic on April 1; junior Hope Stieben of Otis, KS, whose best mark is in the women's javelin (134-11.00) from the 2007 Bethany-Neosho Dual; and senior Nathan Whitcomb of Cottonwood Falls, KS, whose best marks are in the men's discus (161-04.00) from the 2007 Swede Invite on March 24 and in the men's hammer (169-03.00) from the 2007 McPherson College Invitational on March 31.
Meeting the "B" Standard, freshman Michelle Baltimore of Yuma, AZ, had her best mark in the women's discus (137-03.00) at the 2007 Bethany-Neosho Dual.

Becker Earns All-American, Sets School Record Again
At the NAIA Indoor National Track & Field Championships that were held in Johnson City, TN, on March 8-10, 2007, junior Jessica Becker of Capitan, NM, earned NAIA All-American honors for the second time in her career while breaking the school record in the shot put once again.
Her best throw of the day, 46-02.50, came on her final throw and moved her from 5th place to 4th. She was ranked 5th overall heading into the competition.
Other women who competed at the national meet included: freshman Amber Dunham of Independence, KS, who was 15th in the shot put (40-04.75); junior Anna Miller of Blue Rapids, KS, who was 20th in the weight throw (45-01.00); and sophomore Sarah Helm of Seneca, KS, who was 24th in the 60m hurdle preliminaries (9.45—a season best time) and 30th in the 60m dash preliminaries (8.23).
For the men, junior Caleb Svaty of Kanopolis, KS, and senior Nathan Whitcomb of Cottonwood Falls, KS, each competed in the weight throw where they placed 10th and 11th, respectively. Svaty threw 52-07.25 while Whitcomb threw 52-02.75.

In addition, 22 school records have been set since 2001 in both indoor and outdoor track & field.
