After scheduling the initial appointment for counseling, the student will complete information forms during the first visit with the counselor. The student will then discuss his/her concerns and the counselor will begin an assessment of the student’s needs and the ways in which the counseling center might be able to help.

Toward the end of the initial meeting, the student and counselor will make a decision about what the best course of action will be. At times, the student’s concerns are resolved at the end of the meeting and no further assistance is needed. Students may also need further help from Counseling Services

Counseling visits typically last about 1 hour. How long the therapy lasts will depend on the discussions with the counselor about the student’s specific situation.
