When and how should I apply for financial aid?
Bethany College’s priority deadline for financial aid is April 1. If you miss the deadline, you will still be considered for all financial aid available, but you may miss some opportunities.
Students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year (available January 1st.)
What is the difference between merit awards and need-based aid?
Merit awards are based on a student’s talents and/or achievements and are available at Bethany in the areas of academics, servant leadership, athletics, and fine arts. A family’s ability to pay is not factored in when these are awarded.
Need-based aid is awarded to admitted students based solely on ability to pay as determined by the FAFSA.
How do I apply for need-based aid?
Students are asked to complete the FAFSA. Our school code is 001904.
Can I receive a financial aid award before I apply for admission?
Students who want to know where they stand financially with Bethany before applying may complete our Net Price Calculator.This will give you an estimated award that you could receive based on your financial information.
What if my financial situation changes during the year or I have special circumstances not shown on my FAFSA?
Families who feel they have encountered a significant financial change or have special circumstances and would like to request a review of a current aid package should contact the office of Financial Aid to fill out a Professional Judgement form.
Can I receive financial aid if I study overseas?
The financial aid a student is able to receive when studying abroad may differ depending on the program and/or University as well as the terms of enrollment. Typically, enrollment in a program of study abroad approved for credit by Bethany College may be considered enrollment in the home institution for purposes of applying for federal student financial aid. In most cases Bethany College will honor academic merit scholarships for which the student qualifies. Other awards will be subject to the approval of the program director.

How do I know if I am selected for verification an what do I need to do?
Students are randomly selected for verification by the government every year. If you are selected for verification, the school will follow up with you regarding forms you need to complete.
How do I access my account balance online?
Log-in to the student’s eSwede account found on our Bethany website located at the top of the page. (If you don’t know your log-in information, contact the admissions office (785-227-3380.) Once logged in, click on the “Current Students” tab at the top of the page. On the current students page under “My Account Info” you will click on “Course Fee and Statement.” Select the current term you are needing your account balance for and click “Generate my Course and Fee Statement.” You will see a PDF file show up in blue. (Example: View my Course and Fee Statement for Term: Spring 2014 Undergraduate .) Click on this and this sheet will break down what classes you are taking, what you are being charged for, and what has been awarded and applied to your account. Notice on any loans you take out , what has been applied to your account might be different then what has been awarded. When you take out loans, the government automatically takes out an origination fee. (To calculate your account balance, you will want to take the total charges minus what has been applied to your account.)
