Note: Honors courses should challenge students to a greater degree than regular courses.

HN101 First-Year Honors Seminar (3 hours)
This interdisciplinary course serves as an introduction to the Honors Program. It focuses on the improving the student's ability to think about the world in general and the human experience in particular. This course should be taken during one of the first two semesters of membership on the program, with the grade of “B” or better required to retain that membership. This course may be repeated when topics vary.

HN301 Senior Honors Capstone (3 hours)
This interdisciplinary course, considered to be the finale to the Honors Program, encourages students to integrate and apply the knowledge gained from previous honors experience, thus further developing their ability to contemplate and interact with their world. This course should be taken during one of the last two semesters on campus, with a grade of “B” or better required for successful completion of the Honors Program. A student may, with permission of instructor and program coordinator, take Honors 301 prior to their senior year and count it as an “honors experience.”

Honors Experiences May Include:

  • One-on-one research with professors
  • Designated honors sections of catalog courses
  • Regular courses with additional opportunities
  • Travel or study abroad

Freshman will complete six honors experiences; junior transfers will complete four. Four experiences from three of the following Academic Divisions: Fine Arts Division, Humanities Division, Sciences Division, Social Sciences Division. Talk to your advisor about what courses to take. Note: The definitive list of requirements for graduation is in the Bethany College catalog for the year you enter the College. The list above is a partial list of requirements designed to give a quick overview of some basic courses typically taken by Honors Program students.
