Masterson is currently in his twelfth year on the music faculty at Bethany College and has been the Billue-Burnett Distinguished Professor of Music since 2003. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois, where he studied with world-renowned performer, Ian Hobson; a Master of Music from Wichita State University, where he studied with Paul Reed; and a Bachelor of Arts from McPherson College, where he studied with Steven Gustafson. Masterson is a member of the Kansas Music Teachers Association and serves on the state board. He is also president of the McPherson Area Piano Teachers League.
Masterson brings versatile experience to the Bethany College Music Department, including public education, private teaching, and concert and collaborative performances in chamber music, church music, and accompaniment. Masterson teaches piano, piano pedagogy, and music theory courses, directs the Chapel Choir, and is the assistant department chair. He is regarded highly as performer, teacher, clinician, adjudicator, and director. Masterson lives in Lindsborg with his wife, Carolyn, and two sons, Aaron and Paul.
