Zimmerling to open Senior Art Show at Bethany College

Artwork by Briana Zimmerling

LINDSBORG, KAN., December 5, 2011—Bethany College senior artist Briana Zimmerling will exhibit her Senior Student Art Show, entitled “Binding Fragments,” at the Mingenback Art Center at Bethany from December 7 to 13. A reception will be held in her honor on Sunday, December 11, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. with a gallery talk by the artist at 2:30 p.m. This exhibition is free and open to the public.

Zimmerling, a 2007 Valley Heights High School graduate, will receive her bachelor’s degree in studio art with dual focuses in ceramics and painting this January. This exhibition celebrates the completion of her career at Bethany and showcases the evolution of her artwork over a four-year period. Zimmerling’s work includes paintings in various mediums, prints, functional and sculptural ceramics, and handmade books.

“I tend to create abstract art, both representational abstraction and non-representational abstraction (non-objective),” says Zimmerling. “Some of my work is also very “reactive,” where I start with a general idea, then continue to allow myself the trust of my instincts and immediate justifications, to create a piece purely from the reactions and effects from each step that is taken in physically applying and idea to the piece.”

The Mingenback Art Center, located on the corner of Olsson and Second Street on the Bethany College campus, is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily during the academic year.

Mingenback houses the premier center for art instruction in the region and a gallery devoted to the work of regional artists, Bethany college students and alumni. The Bethany College Art Department recognizes that open and rigorous inquiry is essential to a liberal-arts education
