Bethany College celebrates Homecoming

Bethany College will celebrate its Homecoming 2009 with four days of events from October 8-11. Highlights include a business career conference; a fall alumni awards dinner; a talent show with crowning of Homecoming royalty; an auction and a Homecoming football game versus Bethel College.

The football game is scheduled for Saturday, October 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Lindstrom Field. Immediately following the game, the public is invited to attend an auction for the Terrible Swedes Project designed by Dr. Richard Bergen ’53. Items will include: KU basketball tickets; K-State football tickets; vacation for two to a resort in Jackson Hole, Wyo.; Disneyworld family package; dinner for eight at the Red Barn Studio; Birger Sandzen original studio and gallery tour for eight; golf packages; and artwork by several local artists. Proceeds from the auction will be given to Bergen to create a Terrible Swedes statue to be placed on campus.

The Bethany College Business Department will celebrate its 14th biennial career conference October 8. The event will begin with a keynote address featuring Roper DeGarmo ‘00 and Remington DeGarmo ‘97 at 10:30 a.m. in the Burnett Center. This event is open to the public. Alumni Coach of the Year winners Lynda Anderson ‘77 and Dan Hypse ‘81; Bethany Athletic Association Award of Merit honoree David Anderson ‘52; and Athletic Hall of Honor inductees Travis Engle ‘98, Brian Garrett ‘95, Dale Gorsky ‘70, Heather (Hinman) Macari ‘86 and Timothy Winter ‘92 will be honored at the Oct. 9 Fall Awards Dinner at 6 p.m. in Lindquist Hall.

At 7 p.m. on Oct. 9, comedian Tracey Ashley will host a Bethany College student talent show at Presser Hall, followed by the crowning of Bethany College Homecoming Royalty. The event is free and open to the public.

Throughout the week, Bethany students will participate in the campus tradition of Lift High the Cross. Students also will kick off Homecoming festivities with a pep rally in Stroble-Gibson Gymnasium at 9 p.m. on October 8.
