LINDSBORG, KAN., November 28, 2011—The Bethany College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Jared Chase, will present their winter concert in Burnett Center on Tuesday, December 6, at 7:30 p.m. The Jazz Ensemble, made up of instrumental music students, will present a variety of popular styles of music including swing, latin, samba, bossa nova, funk, and gospel.
To get the audience in the Christmas spirit, the Jazz Ensemble will play Christmas selections such as A Child is Born by Thad Jones, A Christmas Medley, and a modern gospel arrangement of Go Tell it on the Mountain! The ensemble will also play well-known favorites of Oscar Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Carlos Jobim, Billy Strayhorn, and Stevie Wonder. Following the concert there will be a reception hosted by the Associated Music Students of Bethany College.
Jared Chase, Doctor of Musical Arts, is an assistant professor of music, chair of the music department, and director of bands at Bethany. Chase earned his doctorate and master’s degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado. He recently served as music director of the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble, First Presbyterian Church of Fort Thomas, Ky., and adjunct professor of trumpet at Sinclair Community College.
