Choir selected to perform at Kansas Music Educators Association Conference

LINDSBORG, KAN., February 7, 2011—The Bethany Choir has been selected to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) conference and in-service workshop. The performance will take place on February 25 at 11:50 a.m. in the Century II Convention Center MJT Little Theater, Wichita, Kan.

Provost and Dean of the College Eugene Bales to Retire

LINDSBORG, KAN., February 6, 2012—Bethany College announces Provost and Dean of the College Eugene Bales’ retirement at the end of this spring’s semester. Bales, who came to Bethany in 1990, has served as a professor and dean, chaired numerous committees, and received many awards from the college. “I will miss the ongoing challenges every day. I will miss the engagement of the people, but I will still be present and active at Bethany College however I can,” says Bales. “Nevertheless, I have been in this position for nine years, and it’s time for a change of leadership, perspective, and experience.”

131st Messiah Festival of the Arts guest soloists announced

LINDSBORG, KAN., February 6, 2012—Bethany College and local sponsors welcome new soloists to the 131st Messiah Festival of the Arts, the longest running Messiah performance in North America. Soprano Karen Kness, mezzo soprano Sharon O’Connell Campbell, tenor John Wesley Wright, bass Weston Hurt and bach baritone Danny Belcher will join the Bethany Oratorio Society to perform Handel’s Messiah on April 1 and 8 and Bach’s St. Matthew Passion on April 6. Soloists will also present their own recitals on April 3.

Schaeffer to present viola recital

LINDSBORG, KAN., February 2, 2012—Bethany College student Sarah Schaeffer will present a viola recital on February 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall. The recital is free and open to the public. The recital will include Sonata for Viola in D minor by Michail Glinka, Vocalise by Sergey Rachmaninoff, and Concerto in C major by Joseph Schubert.
