LINDSBORG, KAN., April 11, 2012—Bethany College senior artist Jordan Schwartz, Salina, Kan., will exhibit his senior art show, “Waking Dreams,” at the Mingenback Art Center at Bethany on April 19 to 25.

A reception in his honor will be held on Sunday, April 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. with a gallery talk by the artist at 2:30 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

“A main theme in my work is the element of storytelling,” Schwartz says. “I enjoy the challenge of conveying a narrative to my viewers through the use of pictures without the assistance of words. Without words, it falls to the power of body language and the relationship the objects in the picture have with each other to tell the story.”

“Waking Dreams” will primarily feature drawings completed during Schwartz’ last few semesters that match the theme of storytelling as well as many ceramic pieces, prints, and paintings he has created during his time at Bethany.

Schwartz is an art education major with an emphasis in drawing. He completed his student teaching in fall 2011 at Sunset and Schilling Elementary Schools in Salina and Salina South High School. He came to Bethany because he “their extensive art program” and the “opportunities they offered for my future career.” Schwartz graduated from Sacred Heart Junior-Senior High School.

The Mingenback Art Center, located on the corner of Olsson and Second Street on the Bethany College campus, is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily during the academic year.
