Convocation is free and open to the public. Bethany students, staff, and faculty will attend.
Sean Patty has led a successful career in business administration. As a Bethany student, he majored in business/economics but took a variety of courses, especially in political science. “This liberal arts education helped him explore his extensive skills and interests, which translated into his impressive career,” says President Edward F. Leonard III. “We’re looking forward to hearing more about Sean’s life since Bethany and his advice for current students.”
Patty is originally from Ottawa, Kan. When he attended Bethany, he was a dedicated student and member of the football team, serving as quarterback his senior year and earning Academic All-American and All-Conference honors. After graduating from Bethany in 1986, Patty moved to St. Louis, Mo., and was hired by Kevin Eichner (who is the current president of Ottawa University) in the banking industry. Patty went on to earn his Master of Business Administration at Indiana University and returned to St. Louis to work for Collaborative Strategies Inc., a management consulting firm founded by Eichner.
Two years later, Patty was hired as the chief financial officer at Angel Technologies, a high-profile wireless broadband venture that raised $50 million in capital in partnership with Raytheon, Wyman-Gordon, and Scaled Composites. His next role was serving as chief executive officer for five years at Cernium Corporation, where he led the early-stage business through productization, channel development, and multiple financing rounds totaling $20 million.
Patty then bought a low-tech firm, Commercial Kitchen Services, and served as chief executive officer until last year when a new CEO was hired so Patty could join Warson Capital Partners, an investment banking and venture capital firm. Patty remains owner of Commercial Kitchen Services.
Patty currently lives in Ballwin, Mo., with his wife Pamela and their son and daughter. He was one of the founding members of the Bethany Athletic Association and received the BAA Award of Merit in 2011.
