On Sept. 27, he will speak to student leaders from Butler Community College during its first Leadership Summit on the Andover campus. His topic is “Growing Leaders by Knowing Our Talents.”
On Oct. 4, he will give two workshops at the National Student Leadership Conference on Student Government in St. Louis, Mo. The topics are “Campus Programs that Work” and “Creating a Student Organization Handbook.” The conference is led by Pat Bosco, Ph.D., vice president for student life and dean of students at Kansas State University.
Esses came to Bethany in 2013 from Kansas State University at Salina where he was assistant director of student services. Esses is a 2002 graduate of Bethany College and, in addition to his current role, has served as director of residence life and assistant football coach. Esses has also coached and taught math at the high school level. Esses earned his Master of Education from Wichita State University.
As associate dean for student development and director of first year initiatives, Esses is responsible for oversight and organizing, managing, and directing a comprehensive system of the First Year Initiative (FYI), co-coordinating the Quest orientation program, leading college retention efforts, and planning and executing new student orientation. Esses also oversees the student Pathfinder mentors and resident directors and teaches a Quest section.
In addition, Esses provides color commentating for Bethany Swedes radio for football and basketball games. His wife his Head Softball Coach Janice Esses, a graduate of 2001.
