Bethania Band Contest Preparation Workshop

The Bethany College Music Department presents an opportunity for bands to practice their concert repertoire and gain feedback from clinicians. Clinicians will work with each band for 40 minutes. Debra Traficante, D.M.A., and Claudio Re, Ph.D., are the clinicians for the workshop.

Traficante is assistant professor of music and assistant director of bands at the University of Oklahoma. She conducts the Symphony Band, teaches conducting lessons and graduate courses, undergraduate conducting courses, and oversees music education students. Traficante earned a Bachelor of Music in music education, cum laude, from the University of Florida, a Master of Music in wind band conducting from UF, and earned a Fellowship to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts in wind band conducting from the University of Oklahoma.

Traficante frequently judges, guest conducts, and clinics ensembles across the nation, and conducted at the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in Singapore in 2005.

Re is assistant professor of music and director of band at Bethany College. He is an advocate for universal music literacy, believing that enduring relationships with music and other arts strengthens relationships, personal as well as professional, and provides avenues for expression of the artistic self that is inherent in each of us. His strong beliefs about the enduring benefits of music’s relationship with the community come from his Italian heritage and long association with Italian community bands.

Re received a diploma in trombone performance from the Luca Marenzio Conservatory in Brescia, Italy, a Master of Art in instrumental conducting from the University of Northern Iowa, and his doctorate in musicology from the University of Florida.

Workshop applications are due by March 14, 2014 and should include school name and contact information, workshop repertoire list, and a $50 deposit. There is no participation fee, but a $50 deposit is due with the application in the form of a check made out to the Bethany College Music Department. Deposits will not be returned if ensembles do not participate. Deposits will be returned with the participation plaque.
