Education Department receives accreditation

The Education Department at Bethany College recently received continued accreditation through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Bethany’s education program has a long history of excellence and was the first private college in Kansas to receive NCATE accreditation in 1954.

Kahler receives top faculty award

Long-time professor of history Bruce Kahler was awarded the Robert Mortvedt Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award at the Bethany College employee appreciation dinner Thursday, May 15. The annual award recognizes a faculty member who makes a distinct difference in the teaching climate of the college. Recipients of the award receive a $1,000 individual grant and the recipient’s department receives a $500 grant for support materials.

Kinnaird publishes book

Brian Kinnaird, Ph.D, associate professor of criminal justice at Bethany College, has published the second edition of his book, “Use of Force: Expert Guidance for Decisive Force Response.” The book is available in print or ebook and was originally published in 2003. Kinnaird is completing his first year at Bethany College in the criminal justice department.

Quest class raises money

Bethany College students raised $200 in a wacky game of Duck Soup softball last Sunday afternoon at the Swede Softball Park. Students from David Slack’s Bethany Quest class organized the fund raiser to benefit Mija Stockman, ’98, a former Bethany track athlete who was injured in an automobile accident and has faced a long, difficult, and expensive recovery. She is currently receiving specialty care in a rehabilitation hospital in Nebraska.

Nelson shows artwork

Cari Nelson Bethany College student artist, Cari Nelson, a senior from Marquette, Kan., will exhibit artwork created throughout her college career, including a semester abroad, in a gallery show beginning May 10 at the Mingenback Art Gallery on the Bethany campus. An opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, May 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. with a gallery talk at 2:30 p.m.
