MindFire and Butler sign agreement

Signing_01Marking a new beginning toward collaboration in the digital arts in higher education, representatives from Butler Community College and Bethany College @ MindFire signed an agreement Tuesday morning, giving more students in the Wichita area a chance to earn bachelor of arts degrees. The partnership is dedicated to providing digital media arts solutions to its students.

Dr. Ken Macur, Provost of Bethany College, and Dr. Karla Fisher, Vice President of Academics for Butler Community College, signed the agreement.

This now means students, who meet the minimum requirements, will be able to seamlessly transfer into the digital and media arts degree program with a focus in either Filmmaking or 3D Animation offered at Bethany College @ MindFire.  This degree makes it possible to accept students with a AA or an AS directly into the program.

Because MindFire is a private business providing the facility, equipment and systems to function as a studio and school, Bethany College, in turn, as a nonprofit, provides the structure for providing education to students by creating the curriculum, hiring the instructors and handling enrollment and financial aide.

Butler’s students seeking a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital and Media Art will be able to complete the program in 2 years with Bethany College @ MindFire. Bethany College @ MindFire has the region’s only motion capture stage, a studio with a dedicated green screen, two audio recording studios equipped with Pro-Tools and studios for traditional art classes.

This articulation agreement means Butler Community College students who have either: an Associate of Arts degree, an Associate of Science degree, a 63 credit hour Associate of Applied Science degree or earned 63 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.0 will be automatically accepted into Bethany College @ MindFire’s bachelor degree program.

Bethany College @ MindFire is staffed entirely by industry professionals who continue to work within the industry. Members of the teaching staff worked on films including “Transformers,” “Iron Man,” among others “Spiderman 3.” They also have experience with broadcast and cable television, nationally syndicated radio shows, commercial production and documentaries.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital and Media Arts from Bethany College @ MindFire students are better prepared and trained to be a success in the Midwest’s growing digital arts scene.
