The Bethany College Board of Directors has named Professor Bob Carlson to serve in the role of Interim Provost effective June 15 upon the departure of Dr. Ken Macur, Provost and Dean of the College. Dr. Macur recently announced he has accepted the position of president at Medaille College in Buffalo, New York.
“This appointment will assure that as transitions occur through the departure of President Leonard and Dr. Macur and decisions are finalized around other executive leadership, that the college and community have a strong point person in place,” said Dr. Kris Ericson, chair of the Bethany College Board of Directors. “Bob’s length and breadth of service to Bethany will assure that our work for a successful fall semester continues.”
Professor Carlson has been a member of the Bethany faculty for 32 years. He is also the Oscar D. Nelson Distinguished Professor of Business and serves as chair of the Business Department. He is a member of the Faculty Senate, the elected faculty representative to the Board of Directors, and serves as a Special Assistant to the Provost. Professor Carlson is a past recipient of the Mortvedt Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award. He served as president of the faculty and faculty senate from 2007 to 2013 and also served for several years as the Special Assistant to the President for Innovation and New Ventures.
Bethany College President Edward F. Leonard III announced on May 13 that he was resigning to accept the position of president at Birmingham Southern College in Alabama.
