Each year students from the Bethany Oratorio Society are selected to perform solos during dress rehearsal for Handel’s “Messiah,” the highlight of the Messiah Festival of the Arts held annually at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan.
This year 16 students were selected for this honor, including seniors: Tyler Breneman, organ, Lincoln, Kansas, Alyson Krohn, alto, Belleville, Kansas; juniors: Austyn Callahan, bass, Colorado Springs, Mark Klaassen, tenor, Marquette, Kansas, Esther Weicht, soprano, Branson, Missouri; sophomores: Sydney Johnson, soprano, Assaria, Kansas, Elisabeth Phelan, soprano, Longmont, Colorado, Alec Schneider, bass, Lindsborg, Landon Slipke, tenor, Norton; Freshmen: Kathryn Campbell, alto, Minneapolis, Kansas, Jaydon Evans, bass, McPherson, Kansas, Isaiah Fabrizius, bass, Wakeeney, Kansas, Annie Halterman, alto, Colorado Springs, Stephen Klaassen, tenor, Marquette, Kansas, Kayln Powers, soprano, Lindsborg, Alyson Wierman, soprano, Brownell, Kansas.
Dress rehearsal for “Messiah” will be performed for the public at Presser Hall Auditorium with tickets on sale for $15 per person at the door at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 21.
The Messiah Festival of the Arts begins Friday, March 18 and features art, music and theater events through March 27. The festival will open Palm Sunday weekend with a tribute concert for Dr. Walter L. Pelz at 3 p.m. Bach’s “The Passion According to St. Matthew” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Good Friday, March 25. “Messiah” will be performed at 3 p.m. on Easter Sunday. All performances are in Presser Auditorium.
