On May 15, Bethany College honored 115 students who earned Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Bachelor of Music Education from the college during the 2015-2016 academic year. Summer, fall, interterm, and spring graduates were honored during Baccalaureate worship and Commencement ceremonies on campus.
Bishop Michael Girlinghouse of the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod of the ELCA in Tulsa was the preacher at morning Baccalaureate service. Bishop Girlinghouse encouraged the graduates to embrace their uniqueness and share their wisdom of what it means to live in a diverse world.
Commencement speakers included Robyn Haynes of the senior class and Molly Johnson ’06, director of alumni relations and annual giving at Bethany College. A moment of silence was shared to pay tribute to Professor Carl Isaacson, who was also scheduled to speak at Commencement, but passed away days before the ceremony. Dr. Isaacson was a professor of communications at the College for the past 12 years. Special music was performed during Commencement by Samantha Anderson of Oberlin, Kansas, on horn, accompanied by Tyler Breneman of Lincoln, Kansas.
An honorary doctorate was presented by Robert Vogel, interim president of Bethany College. Dr. Vogel will complete his interim position at the College on June 30.
