Kinnaird, Associate Professor and Chair of Criminal Justice, will be the keynote speaker for the Kentucky State CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) Annual Conference in Georgetown in September. Dr. Kinnaird has been a presenter the last two years for the Mental Health in Corrections Conference in Springfield, Missouri. CIT is a model of verbal de-escalation, active listening skills and non-lethal weapon use to decrease the number of injuries to law enforcement officers and consumers and increase the number of consumers receiving treatment for mental illness. CIT helps sustain effective interactions among law enforcement, mental health care providers, individuals with mental illness, and the community through crisis intervention programs, education and outreach, and compliance with recommended standards.
