Gretchen Norland, assistant professor of secondary education, successfully defended her dissertation on February 22, titled, “Secondary Level Pre-Service Teachers Leading Whole Class Discussion; A Qualitative Case Study.” It was the final step in earning her doctorate of education from Northcentral University in Prescott, Arizona. Dr. Norland has been a professor at Bethany College for five years.
“I have been working on it for the past three years and could not have accomplished this without the full support of my colleagues here at Bethany and the students,” Dr. Norland said. “It has been a wonderful experience.”
President Will Jones congratulated Dr. Norland, “Thank you for the time, talent, hard work, emotional energy, and finances you invested in your discipline and becoming one of the best in your field,” he said. “Thanks, too, for the way you live out Bethany’s core values.”
Gail Konzem, chair of the education department, added, “Her colleagues and students are very proud of her and her accomplishment.”
