The Bethany College Board of Directors recently elected five new board members who will begin their terms at the next regular board meeting in October. The five new members will replace outgoing board members Jim Martin, Kurt Meyer, Bob Mooney, Jason Opat, and Todd Waletzki.

The new board members are Jeff Burke, Susan Concannon, Bruce Daise, Susan Lundstrom and Jenny Paulseen.

“These folks bring a diverse background of experiences and talents to the Bethany board of directors and their love of the college will be an asset as we move forward,” President William Jones said.

Board Chair Corey Peterson added, “The professional experiences that the new members bring to their role of board oversight and accountability will be a great help to college as it becomes a thriving institution.”

Burke of Manlius, New York graduated from Bethany College in 1985. He is regional vice president of personal lines for Travelers Insurance. Prior to his current position he was CEO at Insurance Consulting of North America; CEO and president of Western Financial Group, Canada; senior vice president of Allstate Group, Canada; and has taught and coached in the Phoenix area. He received a master’s of business administration from the University of Phoenix in 2003 and his wife, Julie Ann (Parish) Burke is also a graduate of Bethany in 1985.

Susan (Wilson) Concannon of Beloit, Kansas is a 1980 graduate of Bethany College. She serves as a representative in the Kansas House of Representatives for the 107th District. She has been a member of the state house since 2012 and serves as vice chair of the Health & Human Services Committee, a member of the Appropriations, Taxation, and Home & Community Based Services Oversight committees. She previously worked as a community volunteer with the Kansas Medical Society Alliance. Her husband, Dr. Craig Concannon, is also a 1980 graduate of Bethany College.

Bruce Daise of Shawnee, Kansas is a 1992 graduate of Bethany College and is vice president, deputy general counsel and chief privacy officer for H&R Block. He earned his law degree from University of Kansas and, along with other legal offices at H&R Block, has also served as an attorney for Sprint, Bayer CropScience, and as an associate attorney with Martin, Pringle, Oliver, Wallace & Brauer, LLC.

Susan (Coughenour) Lundstrom of Lindborg, Kansas earned a bachelor degree in business/accounting from Bethany College in 1978. After graduation, she worked for Sterling Drug as an accountant in the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in McPherson, Kansas where she remained for 37 years through five different owners. She retired in 2015 as the cost accounting manager for Hospira, Inc. She and her husband, Greg, also a Bethany College graduate in 1977, have lived in Lindsborg for 37 years. She has served on the Hyllningsfest Committee as treasure for two years and co-chair in 1997. She has also served on the boards of the Lindsborg Arts Council, Smoky Valley Charities, and Broadway RFD. She has served as treasurer of Bethany Lutheran Church and currently serves on its audit committee and altar guild. She is a member of the Swedish Folkdanslag.

Jenny (Peck) Paulseen of Wichita is a 1972 graduate of Bethany College and received the Bethany College Alumni Award of Merit in April 2017. She served as the early childhood librarian at Wichita Collegiate School for 25 years where the newly constructed Early Childhood Library was named in her honor when she retired. She also worked as a volunteer teacher at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and as a travel agent. Her husband, Ron, is also a Bethany graduate in 1971 and received the Alumni Award of Merit in 2015.
