Lillian Green, director of the Bethany College/Lindsborg Community Orchestra, is organizing the string section of the Jazz Orchestra and Band Workshop that Bethany College is hosting on November 15.
The workshop is free and open to any participants and will take place from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on the Bethany College campus. A concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. (including performances by both the clinicians and the workshop attendees). The string clinicians will be the WC Quartet, a Wichita-based improvisatory string quartet consisting of Ramiro Miranda, Rob Loren, Lillian Green, and Susan Mayo. Exploring different styles ranging from jazz to bluegrass, extended techniques will be taught (like “chopping”), to help classical string players learn to improvise without fear.
The workshop is free, but please sign up before November 1 so we can be prepared with the correct amounts of chairs, stands, and music! Sign up at www.bethanylb.edu/academics/area-of-study/music.
