The Bethany College Athletic Department announces the hiring of Larry Holmes Jr. as the Swedes’ Interim Head Tennis coach.

“The Bethany tennis program has a tradition of excellence,” said Dane Pavlovich, Swedes Athletic Director. “I look forward to Coach Holmes continuing that tradition.”

Coming to Bethany with over 20 years of coaching experience, Holmes was the teaching tennis pro at Kiwanis Recreation Center in the City of Tempe, Arizona from 2007-2017. In addition to this, Holmes was the boy’s head tennis coach at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix from 2010-2017.

From 2014-2016, Holmes was the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Benedictine University at Mesa, located in Mesa, Arizona. Holmes has a background in other racquet sports as well as he was the head girl’s badminton coach at Mountain Pointe High School in 2013.

Before his time in Arizona, Holmes was a tennis counselor at Naval Academy Tennis Camp in Annapolis, Maryland from 2003-2013. From 1996-2003, Holmes was a senior tennis instructor and assistant director at YMCA of Rochester, New York.

 “I’m excited to be a part of Swede Nation and I can’t wait to continue to build upon Bethany College’s rich tradition,” Coach Holmes said. “My goal is for both the men’s and women’s program to consistently compete for the KCAC title and to make the national tournament championships.”

Holmes has a Bachelor of Science in physical education and sport management from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
