During Interterm, our students had a number of opportunities to participate in unique courses. As one example, Kristin Van Tassel taught Nature Writing and Ecological Literature. In the course, students studied literature and engaged in writing activities which focused on the natural world, human relationships with place and nonhuman nature, and environmental/ecological themes emphasizing winter and life in the cold, in particular.
As part of the course, students had two class sessions which occurred outside:
On January 11, students made a trip to The Land Institute’s Marty Bender nature trail, where students learned about signs of life in the cold.
On January 21, students made a trip to the Flint Hills Discovery Center and Konza Prairie. The photo above is from their trip that day.
