Bethany is preparing for a site visit November 15-17, 2010.
Bethany College’s upcoming reaffirmation of accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is “an opportunity for self-assessment and improvement,” said Bethany College President Edward F. Leonard III. The preparations are “critical and integral to our ongoing strategic planning” and will demonstrate “part of my commitment to shared governance.”
Reaffirmation of the college’s accreditation is crucial, as it helps ensure the long-term viability of the institution. Bethany has been accredited since 1932.
The commission’s site visit will take place during the 2010-2011 academic year. In the fall of 2008, Bethany College began to prepare a comprehensive report on the past decade of Bethany’s growth. This book-length study will provide information for the HLC and serve as a platform for the college’s strategic planning.
The Bethany College Self-Study Steering Committee is chaired by professors Bruce and Caroline Kahler. Other steering committee members are Eugene Bales, Denise Carson, Joanne Gunsolley, Mark McDonald, Jayne Norlin, Bob Schmoll and Janie Tubbs.
In addition, the process is drawing on the work of five sub-committees, with membership from across the Bethany community. The sub-committees are: Mission & Integrity; Preparing for the Future; Student Learning & Effective Teaching; Acquisition – Discovery & Application of Knowledge; and Engagement & Service.
