How much will it cost?
Costs differ per program. Students should visit with the Provost’s Office in order to research their program of interest. Then, they should contact the program of choice directly in order to obtain the actual program costs. Students should also plan for additional expenses such as airfare, visa, passport, extra insurance, etc. Please note: the Bethany College student insurance plan may also cover students studying abroad. Speak to Student Financial Services for more information.
What if I am interested in a program not listed on here?
If a student is interested in a program Bethany does not have a partnership with, please talk to an advisor, Enrollment Services, and the Provost Office. All three may have valuable information regarding classes the student will need to take, how they will transfer, and what steps the student will need to go through. Once the student has talked to those three areas, set up an appointment with the Office of Financial Aid.
Will my Financial Aid be applied to my Study Abroad experience?
The financial aid a student is able to receive when studying abroad may differ depending on the program and/or University as well as the terms of enrollment. Typically, enrollment in a program of study abroad approved for credit by the home institution may be considered enrollment in the home institution for purposes of applying for federal student financial aid. In most cases Bethany will honor academic merit scholarships for which the student qualifies. Other awards will be subject to the approval of a coach or faculty member.
Are there additional scholarships for Study Abroad?
There are limited additional funds for students wishing to study abroad. Students should contact the Office of Financial Aid and the Provost Office as soon as possible because there are specific requirements and deadlines for applications. Students are also encouraged to look for aid options outside of Bethany to help with funding their studies.
Is Financial Aid available for summer Study Abroad?
There is very limited aid available for summer study, and it often depends on the amount of aid students utilized in the fall and spring semesters.
When and how will I receive my financial aid?
Financial Aid will be available after the first day of class at Bethany College each semester. If the student has taken care of all requirements necessary to receive aid and is enrolled in the required number of hours, they should be able to pick up any refunds (if they have one) within the first week or two of classes. If the student will need to leave earlier for their Study Abroad program, they will need to make arrangements with the Office of Student Financial Services for someone to pick up their check. Please be sure this person will also be able to deposit the check in the student’s account if necessary.
