Marlysue Holmquist, professor of education, began teaching at Bethany College in 1995. Holmquist received her bachelor’s from Bethany College and her master’s and doctorate from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan.
Holmquist taught in Los Angeles, Calif., Mt. Vernon, Ky. and Marquette, Kan. before beginning as an adjunct instructor at Bethany College. She served as chair of the Education Department from 2000-2007 and now is the elementary education coordinator and serves as the Licensure officer for the college. Holmquist is the recipient of the Rohm Distinguished Professor.
Holmquist teaches a variety of courses for the Education Department including introduction to teaching, instructional technology, methods of teaching social studies in the elementary school, student teaching seminar and supervises elementary teaching majors in their clinical practice.
She is on Faculty Senate, Assessment Committee and serves as the representative to ACCK (Associated Colleges of Central Kansas) special education committee. In addition she served on the Licensure Review Committee for the Kansas State Dept. of Education and is now the representative to the Regulations Committee for KSDE.
Holmquist and her husband, Tom ’76, farm and ranch in the Smolan, Kan. area. She and her husband were the recipients of the award as Kansas Master Farmers in 2012. Her children are Ryan ‘05, Majkin ‘07 and John ‘14.
