Gretchen Norland has served as assistant professor and coordinator of Secondary Education of the teacher preparation program since 2012.

She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education with a Psychology minor from Bethany College. Norland received her Master of Arts in Education Degree from Baker University in Kansas, and her Doctorate in Education through Northcentral University in Arizona in 2017. Norland taught as an adjunct instructor for Baker University, and has received leadership training and given presentations on differentiated instruction and alternative assessments. She has 32 years of teaching experience in Smoky Valley, USD 400, in Lindsborg, Kansas, and was certified to teach K-9 elementary, 7-12 English, 5-8 History, and 7-12 Psychology. In addition, Norland taught online courses through the virtual charter school in Lindsborg, Kansas.

Norland has been active in the Lindsborg area since 1979 with her involvements in education, Messiah Lutheran Church, and in building community and school partnerships for pre-service teacher opportunities. At Bethany College, Norland serves on the Curriculum Committee, Assessment Committee, Teacher Education Committee, and is Bethany’s Coordinator of Secondary Education representative for ACCK. Norland has been involved in the Kansas Teacher of the Year State Selection Committee, the KSDE IHE/LEA Partnership Committee, and the NCATE Accreditation process for Bethany’s Education Department in 2013.
